On a Miata I killed the car 4 times but after that I did alright. I know for sure now that I dislike automatics and my first car has to be a stick.

Be forewarned: the miata's gearbox is renowned for being awesome. It's mostly down hill from here.

To true, broken hearts. Get in a mid 90's subaru legacy and you will be like people drive these things?

The Miata is actually one of the less forgiving manuals that I've driven. It also is hurt by the Miata having basically no torque at all.

Lol 90's Legacy, you say? I own a 98 GT wagon, can very much confirm. At least two inches of play when in gear.

you're lucky you're learning on a Miata. A 2000 Taco with 400k miles on the clock and a leaky head gasket (every 20 miles fill up coolant) not exactly forgiving to bad shifts and stalling.

Nonsense. Gearboxes are generally about the same in feeling and bad ones are the exception rather than the rule.

Clutches, on the other hand, are pretty much garbage across the board on modern cars. Too light, too short, sometimes notchy, and with very little feedback. Even on such cars as the C7 Corvette, it's pretty shite.

I feel your pain. I learned on a late model Dodge Dakota with a 5-speed. That truck would brutalize you on the slightest error.
